ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES - Wednesday, April 18 

    

The Arkansas Association of School Business Officials (AASBO) has scheduled six sessions of CASBO certification classes for Tuesday, April 24, and Wednesday, April 25, at Crowne Plaza Hotel in Little Rock.  Plan on attending the CASBO classes and learn valuable information and updates in public school finance as well as networking with other school business officials from throughout the state.  

 

 

CPE CREDITS FOR CPAs NOW AVAILABLE for a select number of classes!!!

If you are a CPA, three CASBO classes on Tuesday, April 24, qualify for 2 hours of CPE credit each in Personnel/HR field of study, with the following conditions:

  • You must attend in person
  • You must sign in & sign out and complete other paperwork on-site
  • While registering:
  • Please check the appropriate box if you wish to sign up for the CPE credit.
  • You will also list your CPA license number.
  • Additional Information About CASBO Classes:
  • No Prerequisites are needed
  • Who Should Attend?  Superintendents & School Business Officials including CPAs
  • Advanced preparation:  Class presentation material will be sent to all participants to preview before the classes
  • Program Level:  Basic
  • Delivery Method:  Group-Live

 

 

“LIVE STREAMING” OPTION

If you are unable to attend on-site in Little Rock, the CASBO classes will be "live streamed" as an alternative option.  To "live stream" the CASBO classes, you must create a personal account through ArkansasIDEAS. If you have previously live streamed classes you can use your existing ArkansasIDEAS account.  The AAEA will provide AETN with the enrollment lists. Once AETN has those lists, you may create an account at   http://ideaslms.aetn.org/ I will send an email out to let our live streamers know when this is done.

 

Live streaming registration closes Wednesday, April 18, with no exceptions.  Do not delay!

  

You are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

Online registration will close on Wednesday, April 18.

9:00 – 11:00        *HR101: Introduction to Human Resources

       Description:  Introductory class covering topics such as HR legal issues, evaluation, recruitment and

selection, job descriptions, and personnel records.

                                    Instructor:  Shawn Higginbotham, Associate Superintendent for Finance/Personnel,

                                    Lake Hamilton School District.

12:10 – 2:10        *HR102: Employee Compensation

              Description:  Class covers legal authority and obligations of school districts regarding employee

contracts, salaries, wages, benefits, deductions and pertinent payroll records and personnel policies.

                                    Instructor:  Jake Haak, Chief Financial Officer, Rogers Public Schools

 

2:20 - 4:20            *SF252: Revenue: Collecting & Budgeting

Description: Explore how local taxes are collected and distributed by the county officials, including the impact of various amounts withheld by the county to be distributed at the end of the calendar year. Review how foundation funds and categorical funds are calculated.  Using this insight, create a better fiscal year budget for local and state revenue.

Description: The presentation will include reminders for the spring semester and End of Year, such as Amendments,Maintenance of Effort, Exceptions for MOE, Title VI-B Application, 10% Variance, and other fiscal notes.

12:10 – 2:10        SM210: Managing Your District’s Financial Message

Description: This course will challenge participants to think critically about the financial message that their districts' accounting records are sending to the general public. Discussions will include the

importance of coding, appreciating the difference between restricted and unrestricted funds, managing carryover balances, and other topics.

       Instructor: Kelly Hayes, Comptroller, Springdale School District

 

2:20 - 4:20            SF222: Federal Funds Finance & Budget

                                     Description:  A course to provide updates on the guidance and procedures of federal funds and budgets.
