The Arkansas Association of School Business Officials (AASBO) has scheduled six sessions of CASBO certification classes for Tuesday, July 11 & Wednesday, July 12 at the AETN Studio on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.  Plan on attending the CASBO classes and learn valuable information and updates in public school finance as well as networking with other school business officials from throughout the state.  



CPE CREDITS FOR CPAs NOW AVAILABLE for a select number of classes!!!

If you are a CPA, each CASBO Class on _________________ qualifies for 2 hours of CPE credit in Personnel/HR field of study, with the following conditions:

  • You must attend in person
  • You must sign in & sign out and complete other paperwork on-site
  • While registering:
  • Please check the appropriate box if you wish to sign up for the CPE credit
  • You will also list your CPA license number
  • Additional Information:
  • No Prerequisites are needed
  • Who Should Attend?  Superintendents & School Business Officials including CPAs
  • Advanced preparation:  Class presentation material will be sent to all participants to preview before the classes
  • Program Level:  Basic
  • Delivery Method:  Group-Live




If you are unable to attend on-site at the AETN Studio in Conway, the CASBO classes will be "live streamed" as an alternative option.  To "live stream" the CASBO classes, you must create a personal account through ArkansasIDEAS.  If you have previously live streamed classes you can use your existing ArkansasIDEAS account.  To create an account, go to:

                                                Description:  Introductory class covering local, state and federal sources of revenue


11:00 – 12:00                      Lunch on Your Own


12:20 – 2:20                         SF101B – School Finance-Expenditures, Instructor:  Dr. Greg Murry

                                                Description:  Introductory class covering expenditures by fund, function and object codes.


2:30 – 4:30                           SM102 – School Business Management-School Ethics & Audit ComplianceInstructor:  Freeman Wish

               Description:  Introductory class covering management principles including ethics regulations and laws and audit requirements.


Wednesday, July 12

7:30 – 9:00                           Registration


9:00 – 11:00                         PS101 – Introduction to Purchasing & Supply Management, Instructor:  Shawn Higginbotham

              Description:  Introductory class covering purchasing policies, procedures, purchase orders & requisitions, purchasing laws and ethics and other purchasing considerations.


11:00 – 12:00                      Lunch on Your Own


12:20 – 2:20                         SF105 – Understanding Your State Funding Printout & Adequacy MatrixInstructor:  Kelly Hayes

               Description:  Course explaining funding sources associated with the State Aid Notice, Adequacy Matrix and funding calculation methods as well as Educational Excellence Trust Fund Requirements.


2:30 – 4:30                           SF401A – Tier 1 Annual Update, Instructor:  Dr. Richard Abernathy

               Description:  A two hour annual financial update is required by A.C.A 6-20-2004 for superintendents, education cooperative directors, open-enrollment public charter school directors, and school district business managers.  This session also counts as a two-hour elective for the CASBO certification program.  This training can also be used to meet the required Tier 2 training.  Tier 2 financial training is required for all district employees who are involved in the process of recording and/or reporting school or district financial transactions.
